David Atkinson
David Atkinson is interested in philosophy, science and history and is a member of the Maitland and District Historical Society. His historical work has covered the Tolpuddle martyrs and the life and times of HV Evatt, the former leader of the Australian Labor Party who was born and raised in Maitland.
Cameron Archer
Cameron Archer AM is Patron of Maitland and District Historical Society. He has written a number of books on local history. He is particularly interested in seeing the history of Maitland available online to the community and school students.
Michael Belcher
Michael Belcher was born and bred in Maitland with family dating back to the 1830s. He has always loved history, especially social history, but could only really indulge in writing and research once retired. He is a member of the Maitland and District Historical Society and other history groups.
Graham Dark
Graham Dark OAM is a long-term member and a past President of the Maitland and District Historical Society. He is interested in many aspects of the history of Maitland but especially in the history of the Telarah area. He is a former councillor of the City of Maitland.
Lawrie Henderson
Lawrie Henderson is a member of the Historical Society and Maitland Regional Museum. He is a cartographer and researches local history. He has co-authored a number of books and authored Cutty Sark, The Australian Connection and 75 Years : The City of Maitland Pipes and Drums.
Chas Keys
Chas Keys ESM is a member of the Maitland and District Historical Society. His principal research interests are on flooding and community responses to floods. He has published two books on flooding in the Maitland area along with articles on the economic and social history of Maitland.
Janece McDonald
Janece McDonald is President of Maitland Regional Museum and a Committee member of Maitland & District Historical Society. She has written several local history books and is passionate that Maitland acquires a state of the art space where its proud history can be showcased and shared.
Wayne Patfield
Wayne Patfield, a member of the Paterson Historical Society, has a special interest in nineteenth century shipping on the Hunter River and its lower tributaries. He has also researched the use of punts for crossing the Hunter and the building of the bridges which made the punts redundant.
Val Rudkin
Val Rudkin’s principal interests in the history of the Maitland area lie in High St and the Central Business District. Her 2015 book, Who? What? Where? People of 19th century High Street, Maitland, deals with the buildings and businesses of the town’s entrepreneurs in its early decades.
Kevin Short
Kevin Short OAM is the President of the Maitland and District Historical Society. He has written books on the participation of Dorrigo people in World War I and on elections in Australia, and has published articles on various aspects of the history of the Maitland area.
Allan Thomas
Allan Thomas is a mining engineer and the Vice-President of the Maitland and District Historical society. He has a particular interest in the history, heritage and pioneers of the Lochinvar area including the lifestyles of the residents there in the nineteenth century.
Lisa Thomas
Lisa Thomas is the editor of the Bulletin of the Maitland and District Historical Society. She has carried out historical research on several themes in the Maitland area, including Lochinvar and the Maitland branch of the Country Women’s Association.
Brian Walsh
Brian Walsh is a widely published historian and member of the Professional Historians Association of Australia and Paterson Historical Society. His research interests include convict history, Australian colonial history, particularly military history, and the history of the Paterson Valley.
Janis Wilton
Janis Wilton OAM is a practising professional historian. Her Maitland research includes projects on the Maitland Technical College, Maitland Jewish Cemetery, Maitland Showground, Maitland Hospital and Maitland’s museum collections.
